How Eco Sud Improved Waste Handling with the Orkel Hi-X Evo

Modern waste management is no longer just about processing waste — it is about logistics, storage efficiency, and maximizing material value.

In Romania, waste management company Eco Sud was looking for a smarter way to handle RDF, paper, cardboard, and plastic fractions at its Bucharest facility. The solution became the Orkel Hi-X Evo mobile baler.

The Orkel Hi-X Evo processing RDF at Eco Sud’s waste management facility in Bucharest, Romania.

The result is a more flexible operation with improved storage capacity, protected materials, and more efficient transport logistics.

Reducing Storage Challenges

Eco Sud handles large volumes of waste and recyclable materials every day. As operations grow, storage quickly becomes a challenge — especially for lightweight fractions like paper & cardboard.

Large volumes of lightweight waste fractions require significant storage capacity at modern recycling facilities.

Traditionally, these materials require large indoor storage areas to stay dry and maintain quality before transport.

With the Orkel Hi-X Evo, Eco Sud can now bale and wrap materials directly on-site, allowing materials to be safely stored outdoors while reducing the need for additional infrastructure.

Wrapped RDF bales can be stacked efficiently while remaining protected from weather and moisture during storage.

This gives Eco Sud:

  • More efficient use of storage space
  • Reduced dependency on indoor storage
  • Better protection of RDF and recyclable materials
  • Easier handling and more efficient transport logistics

For many waste operators, efficient storage and transport are becoming just as important as processing the material itself.

One Machine Handling Multiple Waste Streams

During commissioning, Eco Sud tested several different materials in the Orkel Hi-X Evo, including:

  • RDF
  • SRF
  • Cardboard
  • Paper
  • Plastic film
The Hi-X Evo successfully compacted SRF into stable, high-density bales.

RDF and SRF proved especially effective applications, producing dense and stable bales with smooth material flow through the machine.

Paper and cardboard also delivered strong results, making it possible to compact and store large volumes efficiently while protecting the material from moisture.

The flexibility to handle multiple waste fractions with one mobile solution was a major advantage for the Eco Sud operation.

Mobility Creates Operational Flexibility

Unlike large stationary balers, the Orkel Hi-X Evo can easily be moved to where the material is generated.

For Eco Sud, this means less internal transport, simpler workflows, and greater operational flexibility across the site.

The mobile setup also allows fast integration into existing operations without major infrastructure changes — an important factor for modern waste facilities where material flows constantly change.

Supporting Waste-to-Energy Operations

RDF and SRF are becoming increasingly important fuel sources for the cement and energy industries across Europe.

Efficient baling plays a key role in this value chain.

By producing dense, wrapped bales, the Orkel Hi-X Evo helps improve transport efficiency while protecting material quality during storage and handling.

For Eco Sud, this creates a more efficient logistics flow from waste sorting to final energy recovery.

Built for Real Waste Operations

Waste handling environments are demanding, with dust, varying material flows, and continuous operation placing high demands on equipment.

At Eco Sud, the Orkel Hi-X Evo quickly proved itself as a flexible and efficient solution for day-to-day operations.

Combined with proper maintenance routines and operator training, the machine became an integrated part of the site’s material handling strategy.

A Smarter Approach to Waste Logistics

For Eco Sud, the Orkel Hi-X Evo is more than just a baler.

It is a tool for improving logistics, optimizing storage, and creating a more flexible waste handling operation.

As waste volumes continue to grow and material recovery becomes increasingly important, solutions that combine mobility, compaction, and weather protection will play a larger role across the industry.

And that is exactly where the Orkel Hi-X Evo delivers value.

This project was delivered in cooperation with Uni-Recycling, Orkel’s Romanian partner, whose local expertise and support contributed to the successful implementation of the Hi-X Evo at Eco Sud.
